This is a small hobbyist site, with no commercial nature whatsoever. As such there is only the minimal data collection necessary for monitoring the web server and diagnosing any issues with it.
This site stores logs of web activity in a format very close to Common Log Format, using Apache's "combined CustomLog' format specifically.
As an example, here's the elided log excerpt from when I just access this page during writing it:
A.B.C.D 126.96.36.199 - - [09/Oct/2019:15:14:44 +0100] "GET /privacy-policy.html HTTP/1.1" 200 7239 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:69.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/69.0"
We can see my (elided) IP, the request made and my browser's User-Agent string. Not visible here is a Referer as I came straight to the page.
These logs are kept for a variable amount of time, with the current rotation setup being based on how big they grow and a fixed number of generations. If they don't exceed the maximum size then they are rotated weekly for 52 generations so as to yield a year's worth of logs. As I type in October 2019 I still have logs from October 2018.
There are also separate error logs kept, to help in diagnosing any issues. Again these currently go back to October 2018.
The web logs could be processed to give an overview of site traffic, but this is not done at the current time.
